facts of fortune

by josh joplin

they preach to the part
of all they have done
of token plans
never begun
...32nd spot
of fact forced lies
oh but who can tell
when god's within
they've told him before
and they'll tell him again

oh but don't worry friends
there's no reason why
we've got the best policticians
money can buy

in school we're taught the laws
they make are just
in the nickel we're told
in god we can trust
it's with fantastic song that we're holding on
to all that is lost
to all that is gone
so turn away when they lie in defeat
if they don't win in vain
they'll fail with conceit

ahh but don't worry friends
because there's no reason why
we've got the best senate
money can buy

they big corporate buildings
are raised high in the sky
shadowing the homeless
left there to die
the tax-free profits
grow larger yet
in a system of greed
i never did get
as the bosses shake hands
smiles are exchanged
wallets grow thicker
and nothing gets changed

oh but don't worry friends
there's no reason why
we've got the best congress
money can buy

and popularity's play
is always at hand
with puppetier of power
alone he stands
his strength, his suits
his weakness, his ties
a madman's agenda
beneath patriotic lies
and the forsaking growing number
as sickness sinks
he sits at his desk
as they freshen his drink

oh but don't worry friends
there's no reason why
we've got the best president
money can buy

and the factory chimneys
they poison the air
as the corporate demons
campaign their care
in all of my years
i've seen all these things
broken promises
and shattered dreams
bring your sick, your hungry
your tired, and your poor
we sit and we wave
as we shut the door

oh but don't worry friends
there's no reason why
we've got the best democracy
money can buy

so i guess it's about time i blog something of somewhat interest.. but it's all relative anyway.. so i can just blog anything and say i fulfilled my goals..

jen(n) came to visit sunday and it was waaay cool. as you can read in jen(n)'s blog, an attempted adventure to chi-chi's landed us in ashland eating at a 99 and the waitress who is like "you're from clinton?! no way, i just moved there.... there's nothing to do there, huh? i basically come from work, go drink at the talk of the town and then go home before dark cause people are creepy" it was great.. but she told us how to get back home, so it was good. and we left her a good tip :)

so yeah. spending time with jen(n) just means i get to laugh a lot.. which makes me more and more excited for when we're not living 1/2 a state away from one another anymore. we purchased some new movies.. one of which is an early brad pitt movie that i have never heard of before... but maybe it'll be like a diamond in the rough or something.. we'll see.

we also watched adaptation. messed up movie man... big time. i don't think i'll be watching that one again, ever. and it won awards.. that's nutso.

anyway.. the jetta is now fully equipped with seat covers. as my mom says today "did you get seat covers? are they the same? why aren't they the same?" but jen(n) and i aren't the same, so why should our seat covers be??

hawaiian and hot sauce, who could ask for anything more.

anywho. day off tomorrow but the jetta needs to have a light put in and the oil light checked so hopefully the boys at the shop don't dirty up the new seat covers.

and before i bring the car in, i must investigate this whole 'the back seat folds down' thing. maybe moving in won't be as troublesome as originally thought!

anywho. bed now :)

Friday, July 25

"and i take a deep breath and i get real high and i scream at the top of my lungs WHAT'S GOIN ON?!"

anywho.. frontiers has come to an end. I called it right when I said the Swift Giraffes would win our little competition. They deserved it, so it was very good. As tired as I am right now and glad it's over, it definitely flew by and I'm gonna miss a lot of those kids. They were definitely fun and in a different way than all the camps last year. I think it's partially cause all our camps last year were only 1wk and this was 2, so there was more time to get to know people.

anyway. so that was fun. and i get to see jen this weekend! i just have to make it through a 730a-9p shift saturday and 730a-130p shift of sunday before i get to see her. i can do it! i know i can i know i can!

man, all i can say is... i need some beirut.

Fruitcakes - Jimmy Buffett, Amy Lee

Fruitcakes in the kitchen
Fruitcakes on the street
Struttin' naked through the cross walk
In the middle of the week

Half baked cookies in the oven
Half baked people on the bus
There's a little bit of fruitcake left in everyone of us

Paradise - Lost and found
Paradise - take a look around

I was out in California
Where I hear they have it all
They got riots, fires and mud slides
They got sushi in the mall
Water bars and Brontosaurs
Chinese modern lust
Shake and bake life with the quake
The secret's in the crust

Chorus

We lost our Martian rocket ship
The high paid spokesman said
Looks like that silly rocket ship
Has lost it's cone-shaped head

We spent ninety jillion dollars
Tryin' to get a look at Mars
I hear universal laughter
Ringing out among the stars

Fruitcakes in the galaxy
Fruitcakes on the Earth
Strut naked towards eternity
We've been that way since birth

Half baked cookies in the oven
Half baked people on the bus
There's a little bit of fruitcake left in everyone of us

Religion, religion.
Mea culpa, mea culpa, mea maxima culpa
Mea culpa, mea culpa, mea maxima culpa

Where's the church, who took the steeple
Religion's in the hands of some crazy ass people
Television preachers with bad hair and dimples
The God's honest truth is it's not that simple

It's the Buddhist in you, it's the pagan in me
It's the Muslim in him, she's Catholic ain't she?
It's that born again look, it's the wasp and the Jew
Tell me what's goin on, I ain't got a clue

Here come the big ones - Relationships -
We all got 'em, we all want 'em. What do we do with'em?

She said you've got to do your fair share
Now cough up half the rent
I treat my body like a temple
You treat yours like a tent

But the right word at the right time
May get me a little hug
That's the difference between lightening
And a harmless lightening bug

Chorus

The future - Captain's log - Star date 2000 and somethin'

We're seven years from the millennium
That's a science fiction fact
Stanley Kubrick and his buddy Hal
Now don't look that abstract

So I'll put on my Bob Marley tape
And practice what I preach
Get Ja lost in the reggae mon
As I walk along the beach

Stay in touch with my insanity
Really is the only way
It's a jungle out there kiddies
Have a very fruitful day

so my ploy to be #1 in the search criteria failed, as i moved up a couple ranks but did not usurp the current leader. i must devise another plan and other select phrases for which i'd like to be top dog on the google search..

i mean, just think, some one could click the 'i'm feeling lucky' button and get me! :P

so yeah, someone searched for "gymnast jen kentucky" and my website was like 4-5 on the list.

i wanna be number 1 on that search criteria so...

gymnast jen kentucky
gymnast jen kentucky
gymnast jen kentucky
gymnast jen kentucky
gymnast jen kentucky
gymnast jen kentucky
gymnast jen kentucky
gymnast jen kentucky
gymnast jen kentucky
gymnast jen kentucky
gymnast jen kentucky
gymnast jen kentucky
gymnast jen kentucky
gymnast jen kentucky

you think that'll do it?? :)

Monday, July 14

so today was an expensive day, but who cares, it's my birthday in a couple hours, so it's all cool

basically, i went to border and bought 3 books plus "Curious New England: The Unconventional Traveler's Guide to Eccentric Destinations" so me and jen can maybe take some adventures before the summer ends and/or too much school begins. should be fun. i will prolly be posting about some interesting destinations the more time i get to look through it.

then i went shopping with mom, cause she said she'd get us a tv for the new apt for my bday. so i got this 24" close-enough-to-flat-screen-that-you-can't-tell-the-difference. but holy crap is this mamma heavy. i hauled this thing upstairs and i'm like sweating like crazy. it won't be fun to get it back out at the end of the summer

then mom went to look for clothes, and we ended up buying me all this stuff. always good. happy birthday to me :)

anyway. chillin' then the real first day of frontiers stuff tomorrow. yay!

Saturday, July 12

apparently our myMovie submission for this year, 'Running for Love but it Keeps Running Away: The Story of Jigga-Fly, a runner and a lover, not necessarily in that order*', should include a poltergeist theme so i can be in it :P

*that's my working title :P

fire and rain - james taylor

Just yesterday morning they let me know you were gone
Suzanne, the plans they made put an end to you
I walked out this morning and I wrote down this song
I just can't remember who to send it to

I've seen fire and I've seen rain
I've seen sunny days that I thought would never end
I've seen lonely times when I could not find a friend
But I always thought that I'd see you again

Won't you look down upon me, Jesus
You've go to help me make a stand
You've just got to see me through another day
My body's aching and my time is at hand
And I won't make it any other way

I've seen fire and I've seen rain
I've seen sunny days that I thought would never end
I've seen lonely times when I could not find a friend
But I always thought that I'd see you again

Now walking my mind to an easy time my back turned towards the sun
Lord knows when the cold wind blows it'll turn your head around
There's hours of time on the telephone line talking about things to come
Sweet dreams and flying machines in pieces on the ground

I've seen fire and I've seen rain
I've seen sunny days that I thought would never end
I've seen lonely times when I could not find a friend
But I always thought that I'd see you
I always thought that I'd see you
I always thought that I'd see you again

music is so great. so of my top listened to songs of right now.. i'll prolly just be randomly blogging them

raining in baltimore - counting crows

This circus is falling down on its knees
The big top is crumbling down
It's raining in Baltimore fifty miles east
Where you should be, no one's around

I need a phone call
I need a raincoat
I need a big love
I need a phone call

These train conversations are passing me by
And I don't have nothing to say
You get what you pay for
But I just had no intention of living this way

I need a phone call
I need a plane ride
I need a sunburn
I need a raincoat

And I get no answers
And I don't get no change
It's raining in Baltimore, baby
But everything else is the same

There's things I remember and things I forget
I miss you
I guess that I should
Three thousand five hundred miles away
But what would you change if you could?

I need a phone call
Maybe I should buy a new car
I can always hear a freight train
If I listen real hard
And I wish it was a small world
Because I'm lonely for the big towns
I'd like to hear a little guitar
I think it's time to put the top down

I need a phone call
I need a raincoat

i'm very disappointed with my abilities as a guest jen(n). it just proves that we need to work as a team, not as each other. damn those identical-twin-parenttrap-esque plans.

in other news:

- i get my new (to me) car today. it's a jetta. and it has a/c and a 6-cd player. nothing is quite as cool as the shaggin' wagon, but we'll just have to deal with it. it's got a big trunk :P
- the next couple days are going to be like a near-far seen with grover as a trek back and forth to woo a million and three times. it'll just prep me for...
- next week frontiers starts. looks like to shall be fun, minus driving back and forth. but it will be nicer with a/c and 6 cds to choose from :P
- and tomorrow we have our going away party for bic. shall be interesting :)

catch y'all later. call me case i need to spend less time working and more time playing! :)

halfway home - jason mraz

I used to walk along the opposite side of the road
and made others get out of my way
I used to think I could sit and wait for the times
but they wont come until I meet them halfway

I'm halfway home and I'm on my own
I'm halfway there and I don't care, I don't mind
I plan to leave here after supper time
that's when traffic is light, all I need is a sign
and I'll be alright. I'll be fine

I used to think that i could just sleep and then I'd dream
And everything it would come to me
Until I woke one day without anything to eat
Lying on the opposite side of the street

I'm halfway home and I'm still out on my own
I'm halfway there and I don't care, I don't mind
Because it ain't my time to stay or say
I'll never lay down.

I used to think that I could just sit and wait for the time
But I know I gotta meet them halfway

I'm halfway home I tried home running with the flow
I'm halfway there. Ain't it funny how everybody seems to care
I planned to get there around supper time their serving up bread and wine
All I needed was a sign and I'll be allright.
I'll be fine.

perhaps, perhaps, perhaps.

i'm in major need of some creative stimulation. geez.
